A plan is one thing. Executing a plan is well, real. I've got 4 weeks of steady, lucrative, safe paid employment remaining, and then it's retirement time. We will have zero income from mid July to January. At that point, Bill will take social security. I'll put it off until age 70, if we can.
We've sold our house, and our lease on our apartment runs out October 1. Between now and then we have to get rid of stuff, move everything we are keeping to storage, and sell our car. We have to plan out what we are taking, weigh everything, try carrying it all over multiple days. We're getting smaller, lighter versions of everything.
We have to change addresses -- we'll be renting a small room from a friend who is going to be our mailing address and mail minder. We have to renew our passports, get our new will notarized, figure out a safe deposit box situation, get a new bank/checking account, update all our online accounts with new information.
Being all modern and everything, we have a website to launch. New email addresses to spread about, social media updates to get out there.
We have goodbyes to say. Lots of them. We're blessed with an abundance of friends who mean a great deal to us. We have a small family, but family, right? We want to squeeze in every visit, every hug, every beautiful moment we can.
We're saying goodbye to a place we love as well -- Charm City, our beloved Baltimore. That means eating steamed crabs, crabcakes, visiting every restaurant we love and every one we missed. Those parks we meant to hike, now is the time. Every touristy thing we skipped because we are locals, is now being scheduled.
It's a lot, but it's doable, right?
Hey fellow Nomads! You are just 7 mos ahead of us. We are heading out, road trip first as you are, cross US from Seattle to NY, then flying off to spend a LOT of time in Europe. We aren't hikers, but still following the plan to travel light. Agree, road trip will help us suss that out. Glad to have fellow travelers to share with.
