Our budget for our travels is $4k per month, which covers rent, food, transportation, utilities, sight-seeing, entertainment - basically everything we spend in a location. That doesn't include expenses back home, insurance or flights, which we pay for from income.
We (2 adults) stayed in San Miguel from Oct 20 to January 6th, with a budget of $9000 for the 9 weeks. During our stay we had Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and Bill's birthday, all of which added a little expense. Bill also had bronchitis, which involved a visit to the UNIMED urgent care, and medications. The doctors visit was $25, and medications were an additional $113. We also had to refill regular prescriptions, which was another $173, enough for the next 3 months.
We also had a family medical emergency back home. I flew back to Baltimore for a week, but we paid for that trip and expenses from our emergency account, so it's not reflected in this budget. Bill stayed in San Miguel while I was in Baltimore.
Our grand total for the nine weeks came to $9074, so over budget by $74
