By the Numbers: Bangkok, Thailand

I loved Bangkok. I want to go back for more, even though we stayed a full month there. The food is amazing, and CHEAP, and everywhere. It's a very modern city in many ways with all that you expect from that -- great transportation, internet, cell phone reception, high end shopping, etc. But it also has deep roots and strong traditions, which go back hundreds of years. It has a strong pop/geek culture, so I was delighted. We even went to see a movie in a cineplex (Godzilla x Kong, in English with Thai subtitles).

Our budget was $4,000 USD for 30 days and we spent $2,385 -- $1615 under budget!!! Rent was still our highest expense. The tiny condo was safe, extremely secure (thumbprint entry to building and keycard access for elevators) ,comfortable (2 minisplit AC units!!), and had an amazing location a block and half off of Si Lom Rd (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48716005). The rental was tiny, but it was cleverly laid out so it worked well for us. And it had a washer, which was really necessary, since we visited during a record high heat wave. The restaurant budget covered eating out at least once every day for a month. Groceries for us were pretty limited since we didn't cook any meals at home -- cereal, coffee, tea, milk, butter, jam, bread, peanut butter, snacks, bottled water, fruit.

Accommodation: 1,160.00

Restaurants: 595

Groceries: 207

Sightseeing: 222
